Feminine or Masculine Leadership: does it matter?
These apparent opposites of Feminine and Masculine deliver different outcomes dependent upon where value is placed. It is critical at this time in society and for businesses to survive and thrive to unify the two in leadership.
Yes, it does matter whether a leader is operating from the feminine or the masculine. It doesn't take long for anyone to wake up and realise that the current state of majority of businesses and the world are suffering due to an over emphasis and dominant value on masculine qualities in leadership. We see this playing out with the following examples:
- World Wars
- Nuclear weapons being developed
- Billions of dollars spent on defence forces
- Global Financial Crisis
- Profits at all costs even if it's harming the environment.
This masculine approach is out of balance and is aggressive, combative and constantly striving.
This has led to the rise of serious and terminal illnesses such as cancer because stress and burnout is at an all-time high as people attempt to keep living in this masculine paradigm. Billions of dollars are being lost per year in productivity because of stressed/burnt out workers.
Can you see the imbalance and the economic reality? Think about it! Imagine where all that money could go, e.g. fixing large scale global issues, if a balanced approach was taken and more leaders were operating from the feminine qualities. The time is now to become more conscious.
Ancient System
The Chinese I Ching is one of the oldest classical divination systems and one of the oldest books in the world. Its fundamental premise is the dynamic of the Yin (Feminine) and Yang (Masculine) duality and how they shape changes in the Universe and our reality. To be in flow with life and nature is to be constantly balancing the feminine and masculine energies.
Yin and yang, male and female, strong and weak, rigid and tender, heaven and earth, light and darkness, thunder and lightning, cold and warmth, good and evil...the interplay of opposite principles constitutes the universe - Confucius
Over time, this system has formed the basis of many philosophies and belief systems.
Where did we lose our way?
The roadmap to the Feminine
We need conscious leaders to choose to bring in more feminine qualities into their leadership style to address the imbalance. Many leaders are stretched too thin competing for resources and with the incessant drive to deliver to the bottom line hanging over them. Relationships are suffering (divorce rates are skyrocketing) and the essential work / life balance seems elusive. Is this what you signed up to? Did you want to make a difference in the world, one that helps solve world problems and delivers conscious results to those in need? Do you value family time and want to spend more quality time with the relationships that truly matter? What is the new contract to sign up to? A contract with the feminine.
Regardless of gender, you have both feminine and masculine qualities within to draw upon, some may have had more use whereas other are lying dormant within you.
By bringing in the feminine and unifying it with the masculine, conscious businesses can be formed that focus on the right blend of focus, drive and analytical thinking complemented with nurturing, resting and creativity. Both depend upon each other.
The roadmap includes:
1. A conscious focus by organisations and leaders on feminine qualities such as flowing, intuition and resting and alignment with nature's cycles. Reducing the overuse of the masculine qualities.
2. Many people have limiting beliefs standing between them and unifying the feminine and this is due to the masculine programming that we have been subjected to e.g. men are not meant to show or express their emotions. These limiting beliefs need to be discovered and replaced with beliefs that embrace the feminine.
3. Embodiment of both the feminine and masculine qualities in everyday life.
Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare
- Japanese Proverb
This roadmap back to the feminine creates harmony and a shift toward wholeness and unity.
This requires conscious choice, what decision will you make? Do you want to contribute to the future of humanity and a better life for you and your children?
