In Part 1, I shared a book review of INNERCISE: The New Science to Unlock Your Brain’s Hidden Power by John Assaraf. Did you receive all of the amazing information from Part 1? If not, please click here. In Part 2 of this blog series, and the next part of the book, the author dedicates a significant proportion of the book to six blocks that are in the way of your success. Now I want you to go get this book because it’s fantastic to learn about how the brain is stopping you from your success so I’m not going to reveal what those six blocks are. I’m sure you can guess a couple of them though :).
One of the six blocks is fear. The feeling of fear conjures up senses, images and thoughts that ultimately either slow you down or completely stop you in your tracks. Did you know? The majority of the time, it’s just our amygdala (tiny almond bag of neurons in the brain) responsible for the fight, flight or freeze and emotional responses that are in overdrive.
This part of the brain was tremendously helpful back in the cave days when we had real life and death threats such as a tiger coming into the cave, and hoping it would get you into its belly, and you would fight for your life and flee but it’s less helpful in navigating our modern day.
Now you shouldn’t get angry or beat yourself up if you’ve let the amygdala hijack your brain or for letting your fears hold you back. We should take a gentler approach by embracing fear and say, “thanks for protecting me but I’m ok and I’m going to continue down this path.”

It’s about claiming your power back from fear and turning down the volume (as we can’t remove the amygdala from the brain as that would mean we wouldn’t fear anything!).
