Do you lack confidence to go to the gym?

Do you lack confidence to go to the gym?

Sep 10, 2023

Do you find you don't have time to get to the gym? Do you lack confidence to go to the gym? If you want to lose weight, tone up and have better mental health then find out the benefits of exercising at home and easily set up your own fun gym.

The benefits of a home gym are you:

  • fit your workouts around your life and schedule. There is no need to spend time driving to a gym and getting to the gym can sometimes be an obstacle to doing exercise.
  • stop paying for a gym membership you don't use.
  • don't need to waste lots of money on expensive equipment.
  • build up your body confidence in the comfort of your own home.
  • have control over what you feel like doing and when. You're not at the mercy of the class timetable or others using the equipment you want to use at the gym.

My home gym consists of:

  • Mini-trampoline
  • Dumbbells
  • DVD workouts
  • Skipping rope
  • Foam roller and trigger point massage ball.

Mini-trampoline: I absolutely love my mini-trampoline and have had one for about 8 years, it's fantastic to run and jump on. When I did a DVD workout, I added my mini-trampoline for when I need to run on the spot or jump and it's made exercise more interesting for me. One of the reasons I chose a mini-trampoline is because of the NASA report on the rebounder, you can read about that here. It's much easier on your joints than running on concrete or a treadmill. The longevity of your body is something to think about because you want your knees and hips to last as long as they can without the need for a replacement.

Dumbbells: I have a variety of weights including:

  • 1.0kg
  • 1.5kg
  • 2.5kg
  • 5.0kg
  • 6.0kg
  • 7.0kg

This gives me a choice of weights depending upon what type of strength workout I'm doing and also if I feel more fatigue with certain arm exercises, I can drop to a lower weight as needed. The light dumbbells are good for running with on my mini-trampoline as well.

DVDs: I enjoy aerobics workouts and this is because I was a competitive jazz ballet dancer for 15 years and like the coordination required using my whole body. I have a range of DVD workouts so I can have variety including weights, abs, butts and thighs, high intensity, circuit and yoga. I have actually created my own workouts to where I have incorporated my mini-trampoline whilst completing the aerobics DVD's. I love it!!

In addition to DVDs, I have yoga videos online and will sometimes bounce along to YouTube videos. There are a lot of exercise options on YouTube to keep things interesting.

Skipping rope: Skipping is a good cardio and coordination exercise that fits easily into your schedule. You can start with 3 mins and build up to 10 mins. Boxers use skipping for fitness and they are super fit.

Foam roller and trigger point massage ball: Foam rollers are a tube of dense foam that you can roll your thighs and calves on and it helps to ease muscle tightness after a workout.

Trigger point massage balls are really helpful for getting knots out of muscles. They can be used for shoulders, neck, glutes and feet. it's good to apply some pressure on a knot then switch to the other side to give it a break, then switch back. Avoid any bones and focus on tight muscles.

Using both the foam roller and the trigger point massage ball can improve your workouts as you have less tension in your muscles.

Stretching: in addition to the above, yoga poses or a stretching routine is an easy home workout so long as you have learnt how to do the postures or stretches from a qualified instructor first. It's a good idea to stretch at the beginning and end of your workouts too as this helps avoid injury.

Remember when starting any new exercise regime, it's a good idea to get the all-clear from your doctor first.

You don't need to purchase everything at once, simply buy the items that you resonate with the most and start from there. Over time, you can buy other items and build up your home gym.

Protein shakes

After a workout, a wholesome protein shake is recommended and I personally love these Juice Plus options. The first one is Complete shakes which are much more than a protein shake.

If you could get 20 wholefood-based plant superfood nutrients into you and your family every day for just a few dollars … should you? Would you?

Most people have great intentions of what they should eat … but the reality of what they do eat is a gigantic gap. We’ve been using these superfood blends for the past ** as smoothies, in porridge, to make desserts, protein balls or just add your fave milk and shake it up. As a species we are overfed and undernourished. This is the perfect blend of macronutrients to bridge that crucial gap between what you are eating and what your cells need to thrive every day.

They come in trial packs of 15 or 30 serves and can be shipped straight to your door and a FREE recipe guide on dozens of ways to use them to your inbox. And because there are no nasties in them - they are suitable for athletes' performance and recovery, pregnant or breastfeeding mums, toddlers and fussy eaters (flavours are so yummy in choc or vanilla) or growing teens who eat out everything in the pantry (they are amazing at curbing cravings). Please go here to buy now.

The other alternative is Perform shakes and find out all the good things about them here.

With exercise, it's about finding what resonates for you and then showing up consistently to get results and changing things up over time too so your body doesn't get used to it. That's the benefit of the home gym as there are a variety of workouts.

If you are lacking the confidence to go to the gym or find it a challenge to fit in exercise, then consider a home gym.
