Aug 15, 2021

When you look back on your life, are there people, events or achievements that stand out to you as the most important or significant? Let’s call these the “Wonders of Your Life”. Is it possible for you to come up with a list of the 7 Wonders of Your Life? Would you like to experience more gratitude for the good in your life?

I’m sure you have heard of all of the research that gratitude brings to your life including but not limited to:

  • An increase in positive emotions
  • A greater appreciation of life
  • An improved connection with others.

Being grateful isn’t always easy to feel in life particularly if there is an absence of something that you value or desire in life. Focusing on the absence or lack of something causes negative feelings and keeps you from being in the present moment so spending some time in reflection on what you are grateful for in life is empowering and satisfying. A useful exercise is to consider the 7 Wonders of the World and then come up with your own 7 Wonders of your Life.

Let’s take a look at the 7 Wonders of the World. These structures have achieved this status because they are natural wonders constructed by humans and a few of them showing how ancient civilisations lived, they include:

  • Taj Majal in Agra, India
  • Colosseum in Rome, Italy
  • Chichén Itzá in Mexico
  • Machu Picchu in Peru
  • Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
  • Petra in Jordan
  • Great Wall of China in China

To help you narrow down your list of 7 Wonders of your Life, here are qualities that may inspire you:

  • A life event that has historical value
  • Someone you love dearly
  • Stunning beauty or uniqueness experienced in your life
  • An iconic or grandiose achievement in your life
  • Advanced knowledge or wisdom you have gained
  • A place that you have escaped to or have fond memories.

Play with this exercise and have fun. Come up with your "7 Wonders of your Life" and express gratitude for these gifts and blessings. Once you have completed this exercise, share it with your loved ones so they know what you value in your life. Was there anything else you noticed completing this exercise? Was it easy or challenging to do?

Take the practice of gratitude on your life path and see the world through the eyes of wonder.

Here's to living your best life!
