3 ways to Harvest Happiness

3 ways to Harvest Happiness

May 10, 2020

Is happiness elusive? Can you cultivate it?

Like the farmer who plants seeds for the next crop, can happiness seeds be planted to bring a bountiful happiness harvest?

Being happy is one of the 5 core emotions along with sadness, guilt/shame, anger and fear. Does happiness feature in your daily life or do the other emotions take centre stage?

If you think you can, then you can. If you think you can’t, then you can’t. It’s psychology 101; when you think positive thoughts, you will experience positive emotions and you will receive positive outcomes. This means that thinking happy thoughts will lead to happy outcomes so it is worth the effort in planting happiness seeds, nurture them and watch them flourish.

Each day brings a melting pot of emotions and you can choose to suffer when experiencing more of the negative emotions or you can choose happiness every day. Here are 3 ways to harvest happiness and to overcome suffering:

1. Let go of worry. When you are feeling anxious about a situation, it’s normally a memory being projected into the future. When you consider the worry and ask if it’s real? The answer is “no”. This means ignoring your thoughts of worry and letting them go is a good strategy for returning to happiness and positive feelings.

Why do you stay in prison when the door is so wide open? Rumi

2. A happy heart. Your heart is a powerful tool to be mindfully used to cultivate happiness every day. Science explains that the heart has the largest electromagnetic field in the body and generates considerably more power than the brain. Meditating and focusing on your heart thinking about love, joy, forgiveness and compassion will generate feelings of happiness.

Only from the heart can you touch the sky. Rumi

3. Align with your life purpose and live a life of meaning. Connect with your life purpose daily through silence and meditation. Listen for the whisperings gently nudging you to your next right action to create the life of your dreams.

Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray. Rumi

What you may notice about these practices is they all come from within you, there is nothing external to chase that will make you happy. Everything you need is within you. These practices will create the conditions for happiness to be part of your daily life.

Tend to the seeds you plant each day and reap your harvest of happiness.

You always have a choice. Choose to be happy today!
